Maybe it is just a change to your beard shape and style that you need to feel invigorated and ready for the new year, the new decade.
Bear in mind that we’re talking about thousands of condoms distributed across our eight UK barbershops — we have stores in Birmingham, Solihull, Derby, Cheltenham, Leicester, Bristol, Nottingham, and Manchester.
Now, in the run-up to Christmas, and with thousands of condoms left — it’s perhaps time for something new — and we’re looking for places that could put lots of condoms to good use.
So, what should we do with thousands of condoms?
We’re keen to get your input. For example, do you know of any homeless charities or foundations that could distribute them to help others? What about distributing them through a university campus bar? An HIV clinic or charity?
We’re open to ideas and we want to hear from you, but we do want to make sure that they go to good use, to ultimately help people take control over their sexual health.
If you are running an event in any of our cities and think some condoms would be a positive addition — then you can also get in touch
Please send us your ideas on where our condoms can be put to good use.

]]>“Thousands of customers a month visit our stores for a haircut,” says Gilronan. “A massive proportion of our customers are young professionals and students so our stores are great places to give out free condoms.”
“A rise in STDs is a problem we often read about in the press, well this is us doing something practical about it,” says Gilronan.
“Young people love convenience and we really believe we can make an impact,” he says.
According to data by Public Health England, STDs in the UK are on the rise. In 2018, there were 447,694 new STD diagnoses, a 5% increase on the previous year.
“It’s a fun campaign with a serious message but one that can ultimately have a real world impact,” Gilronan adds.
A common mistake when men style their hair at home, is applying too much. Assuming that you’re using a professional product, which we’d always recommend, you shouldn’t need to use more than the size of a 20 pence piece. Over applying any finishing product is liable to make your hair look either greasy or like clunky.
Unless you have extremely thin hair - which is prone to get greasier faster - you should avoid washing every day, as this will wash out natural oils that can be of benefit to the condition of your hair and scalp. With thick, coarse hair in particular, limiting the number of washes per week to three would not be a bad idea. It could help in your quest to get the barber-finish style you want.
The buzz cut, an all-time classic that deserves to be on every climate change haircut round-up ever to be written. Firstly, you’ll struggle to find an easier hairstyle to manage, the length means that additional heat from a mop of hair won’t be a problem, and ultimately, given the right head shape, it can look super cool.
But before you pull out some dodgy Argos clippers and go for the home-chopped disaster look, visit your professional barber. It’s not the most difficult haircut, granted, but the edges, neckline and even-ness count for a lot when that’s all you have. It’s also a good idea to finish your buzz cut off with a small amount of matt paste, simply to counteract any potential hatched chicken look.
The crew cut is another classic that never falls out of favour, and for good reason. Similar to the aforementioned buzz cut, it is another no-to-low maintenance style that requires little attention. However, some men will have concerns about looking like a commando in the workplace, but it could work well at the start of a two to three week holiday, as it should have time to grow back.
This style is, of course, more suited to people with naturally straight hair texture, but can still look good with curly hair too, depending on how much of the flat-top type finish you want. It is bar-ready, beach-ready and suits men confident in themselves.
Classic men’s haircuts and climate change clearly go hand in hand. The pomp, designed and famed by the pre-climate crisis rockabilly generation decades before, was merely a gift to future generations of sweaty climate victims. That stylish large quiff worn by nonchalant young men is perfect with a tight fade for the warmer temperatures.
It is a surprisingly low maintenance style considering its almost overly styled appearance. Luckily, the work with the pomp is done by the barber who cuts the style into being. All you have to do is run a decent hair product through the top (and especially the fringe), such as Daimon Barber Classic Pomade — and you’ll be good to go.
As temperatures soar UK beach trips will surely rise in popularity, so what better hairstyle than the classic surfer rat style? It’s a stylish haircut, rough and rugged with a focus on allowing natural hair texture to take a leading role, which means that you won’t have to spend too much time faffing around styling it.
The surfer style is better suited to naturally wavy or curly hair texture but there are plenty of great products, such as Fudge Salt Spray, to encourage this style, as well, of course, as a great barber.
The likeable and hugely popular India captain - who has even been likened to a ‘modern day Jesus’ - had a short back and sides blended into his well-groomed beard at the central Manchester store.
Unaware of the superstar in her chair, barber Jade Mather noticed that her client was paying close attention to the rolling cricket on the high definition television screens in the Manchester barbers.
“Do you like cricket?” she asked the 30-year-old India captain, to which he replied: “Yes, I play a little bit.”
As the haircut progressed, however, his stardom started to become apparent.
“He was a lovely bloke,” says Mather. “You’d never have known he was so famous - we’re talking 37 million Instagram followers famous.”
As well as being a talented cricketer, humility and great sportsmanship are part of what makes Kohli the huge star that he is today.
Everyman Barbers’ Manchester manager, Harry Nichola, was also thrilled by the impromptu visit.
“We’re super proud to have welcomed such an influential sportsman to our Manchester barbershop,” he says.
“We hope that he enjoyed the Everyman experience as much as we enjoyed having him in - it’s a massive sign that we’re doing the right things,” he adds.
According to Kohli, he will return to the Manchester barbers in early July when he’s due another cut.
]]>There have been scores of articles published, predicting ‘peak beard’ and asking ‘will the beard boom ever end?’ - and the fact that we, as one of the UK’s leading barbers, can tell you, beard boom is still indeed a boom.
So, it goes without saying now, that lots of men these days sport a beard. However, surprisingly few know how best to manage one, which is perfectly understandable, if only because, not all beards are the same. Just like hairstyles, there are different lengths, different textures, and multiple styles and trends and products and grooming methods.
Indeed, maintaining a meticulously groomed beard around a busy work-life schedule can be a challenge, so here are some tips on how to look after yours.
Of all the different beards styles, the stubble look is probably the most popular, and for good reason. Firstly, it doesn’t take long to grow, it’s a great way to regularly change your look, and maintaining a decent growth of stubble and it is much easier than maintaining a full-on caveman look.
It is the beard that suits the business environment, the tech scene, and the creative arts, and shaving it off at the drop of a hat doesn’t require a big pair of cajones for fear of looking like a totally different person.
Everyman Barbers’ tip: although stubble I can be easy to manage, get your barber to go over it with an even grade to eliminate and stray hairs. You can go for a slightly lower grade around the sideburns and keep it trimmed around your mouth. You can also square off the cheek areas to make it look neater. Always use a mirror.
While a longer moustache with a beard can be a great look, if you work in the corporate world, you’ll be hard-pressed to pull this off. Sporting a large moustache is generally a statement, a fashion statement, a centrepiece — call it what you will. This type of facial hair is mostly suited to those who work in creative industries, and it can require a fair bit of maintenance to keep in check.
Like most beards, keeping the neckline and edges fairly neat is important, but more crucial in making sure that the actual moustache is even, free from straggly hairs, and groomed to suit the rest of your facial hair.
Everyman Barbers’ tip: before you trim the moustache, comb it out so you can easily spot the uneven hairs and use a mirror (and your face) to trim the tips evenly. Finish the moustache off with some nice wax and condition your beard with some professional beard oil. View the beard products we stock here.
Growing a caveman beard doesn’t require any effort, as such, but painting one does. Few men can get away with a huge unkempt beard beyond big-time celebrity heartthrobs and cowboys, so, better to keep it in check.
A great way to manage a big beard is to make sure you give it shape: create defined edges, keep the neckline nice and clean, and rid yourself of any stray hairs that can detract from what can otherwise be the perfect fashion accessory.
Everyman Barbers’ tip: the good thing about a large beard is that it gives you an opportunity to create your own face shape. If you have a defined jawline, for instance, then you can follow your natural face shape while trimming, but if you have a weak chin or thin face, you can trim your beard to strengthen those up. Always use a mirror when trimming your beard. Do not forget to wash it regularly and use a great beard oil to keep the hair healthy and vibrant.

It’s impossible to talk about great cocktail bars in Manchester and not mentioned this swanky downtown joint. Mixologists here have a tendency to go for local influences and there is a huge range to choose from. Like many great cocktail bars, while they have the classic down to a T, it’s sometimes best to just chat to the specialists and let them work their magic according to flavours that you like — you won’t be disappointed.

“We love beer and we want to get to get involved more in the local community, so we thought a beer tasting open to everyone would be a great way to meet locals,” says Gilronan.“We offer free beer every day of the week to customers in all of our stores, but after noticing Manchester’s booming craft beer scene — we thought we’d get some local lads in with some decent local brews for everyone to try,” he says.
“It’s not exactly a hard sell, is it?” he asks.
In Manchester, where we opened our eighth barbershop, things are no different: there are plenty of excellent independent coffee shops, all easily reachable from our central Cross Street store.
We’ve rounded up a list of some of the city’s best independent coffee shops where you can get find that all-important caffeine hit, with a touch of finesse or a delicious snack to go with it.
As the name suggests, Manchester’s Black Sheep Coffee, which has locations at Piccadilly Place and Spring Gardens, likes to do things a little differently. With a heavy focus on bean quality, great service and, of course, excellent coffee, Black Sheep Coffee has become a hit among Manchester’s coffee-loving urbanites.
Co-founders Gabriel and Eirik put the journey of bean-to-cup at the heart of their mission to “rid the world of boring, average-tasting coffee”. Every year, the duo travel far and wide to see the growing, picking and drying process of the beans, and to ensure that local farmers get their fair share. It’s an admirable mission that has led to one of Manchester’s best independent coffee shops.
Additionally, Black Sheep Coffee offers a range of craft beers and specialist cocktails to boot.

Born from “a passion for design, creativity, culture and a sense of community” following a period spent in Berlin, Fig + Sparrow duo, Jan and Emily, have created an intimate, well-designed coffee hub in the heart of Manchester that would satisfy the most critical of coffee lovers.
Fig + Sparrow also offer a range of cakes, light healthy dishes, loose leaf teas and iced coffees — ideal for the hot summer days, should we be lucky enough to have any.

]]>“Hair loss almost always has a negative impact on men's’ confidence,” Gilronan says. “We now have the technology available to us that can give men their hair and confidence back.”
The innovative SMP hair loss treatment, a procedure which usually takes two or three sessions to complete, is used to combat general hair loss and various forms of alopecia, including scarring as a result of hair transplant surgery.
Effectively, it is a highly detailed procedure similar to a tattoo, carried out by experts who can create a convincingly natural, fuller, thicker looking head of hair and even recreate lost hairlines.
During an expert consultation, a client’s skin tone is matched to ensure a subtle, natural-looking finish. The procedure usually requires two or three sessions, which take between 15 minutes to 4 hours each.
Furthermore, the SMP procedure can be reversed in a similar way to which a tattoo is removed.
Everyman Barbers, which has eight stores throughout the UK, partnered up with HIS Hair Clinic, a world leader in SMP, to launch the service.
Male balding pattern effects around 25% of men before they reach age 21, and around 85% of men by age 50.
The physical change for men experiencing hair loss can be distressing and negatively impact their self-esteem.
“We’ve spent more than a decade working hard to build a reputation as an industry leader in men’s hair,” Gilronan says.
“Offering a hair loss treatment for men is us utilising a modern solution to solve an age-old problem for men,” he adds.
Additional information
We will host an SMP demonstration in our Leicester store on 21st May 2019

But while the traditional pub continues to stagger off into the night, the number of craft breweries, beers and bars has rocketed in recent years — so the beer connoisseurs among us have plenty of reason to chin-chin.
A great place to enjoy a delicious, wide selection of craft beers is in the north’s cultural capital, many of which are walkable from our barber shop in Manchester.
Situated on Dale Street is Beatnikz Republic, a place for discerning craft beer lovers. What is great about this place, beyond the seriously slick can designs, is that to go with the simple-but-well-designed interior, is an array of interesting tap brews that can be enjoyed as much of the backstories to their names.
Some notable brews here are the Big Red Sur, a red IPA with a toasted malt character that was “inspired by sitting around campfires in the Red Woods of Northern California.” For the lagging drinker, a Russian Riot stout, at 9% abv, is likely to wake you up and satisfy with its combination of Muscovado sugar, cherries and bourbon oak. It is a drink “inspired by all those that fight for acceptance, freedom and choice.”
Well, there’s plenty of choices here and more the merry for it. They also have a Beer School. For more details see here
Tucked away under a railway arch over on Dantzic Street is Runaway Brewery, a cosy hub with a wide range of tasty craft beers which are brewed in their microbrewery.
As you sit back and sip any of their unfiltered and unpasteurised brews you can feel that these brewers love their craft.
Every Saturday at 12pm, you can partake in a brewery tour where you’ll meet the brewers to find out how their beers are made. You can also book private tours.

When seven likeable brothers who love beer decide to open a brewery, good things can happen. No better proof of this is the hub of great beers and decent food that Seven Bro7hers Brewery offer in their Salford Quays location, where they have an on-site taphouse.
Their range of beers is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and often bustling, as it is in their separate bar, where you can also enjoy a selection of guest beers on top of the brothers’ own brews.
You can rent our their large space for events, see more here
Friends Paul and Andy tasked themselves with making great beer, or more specifically, “to make traditionally modern beers” by following in the long tradition of UK brewing. In short, they succeeded, and have indeed created a range of fantastic beers that any beer lover should try given half the chance.
While the duo have creatively named their brews: “Cut like a buffalo”, “King Cotton” (which pays homage to Manchester’s textile heritage) and “Pick me up” — you get a strong sense while sipping on one, that their real mission, in the own words, rings true.
Catch them on Western Street, or see more here
For beer drinkers who prefer a more traditional pub interior of the Victorian ilk; heavy furniture, chunky dark wood bars but ultimately cozy, then the Marble Arch Inn on Rochdale Road, one of two outlets run by a local brewery Marble Brewery, is in for a real treat.
Marble Brewery specialises in “innovative cask, keg, can and bottled beer, as well as revitalising historic British styles.”
Their wide range of brews are a great example of why craft beers are surging in popularity, there’s just too much to like.

The store situated in central Cheltenham at 11 Clarence Street is the eighth Everyman Barbers in the UK and is the last of three new store openings in a 12 month period. Everyman GM, Brett Tonks commented:
“With our flagship store in Birmingham and a newly renovated store in Bristol, a Cheltenham store made perfect sense. We have been planning a store here for well over a year, but as always we remained patient and waited for the perfect location to become available. Clarence Street was our number one choice, and when the property became available, we moved swiftly .”
He continued, “The store opening in Cheltenham marks the end of a very busy 12 month period for the Everyman team regarding store openings. Throughout the rest of the year, our management team will be focussing on our eight stores and improving the Everyman customer experience even further before we begin plans for further store openings in the future. We look forward to welcoming the good people of Cheltenham for their first Everyman experience.”

Going green and being conscious about environmental issues doesn’t mean we’ll be pedalling for power or cutting hair in the dark but we do have a responsibility both in our stores and with the advice we offer about hair care at home. With this in mind, we have made the following changes this year to decrease our impact on the environment:

The VIP area was home to the specially designed Everyman pop-up Barbers store, where we had the honour of styling many of the headlines acts hair as well as other VIP’s that adorned backstage passes. Four barbers from our Birmingham & Solihull stores alongside GM, Brett Tonks and Retail Director, Julie Gilronan made up the Everyman Barbers team at the festival.
GM, Brett said, “With a new Solihull store opened in the last 12 months, it’s important for Everyman Barbers to take part in local events like Solihull Summer Fest. It’s great exposure for Everyman Barbers plus sponsoring events is also a great way of giving something back to the local community and supporting charities such as Help Harry Help Others.”
He continued, “We’ve had fantastic feedback from the festival. It’s a real honour for our barbers and management team to receive so many compliments and accolades from some of the top names in the music industry.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to Reuzel for supplying their products for the festival and a massive thank you to all who braved the weather (especially on Sunday) and made Solihull Summer Festival 2018 another huge success. Water quality can have a huge impact on your hair when abroad. Depending on your destination the water can make your hair extremely soft and unworkable or often it can make your hair very dry. With this in mind, we would highly recommend taking sea salt spray with you and a good quality conditioner... You will probably need one of them each night before hitting the bar.
Your hair product melting is a big problem in hotter countries and if your product melts in its container, it's near enough guaranteed to make your hair greasy. To avoid this happening keep your styling clay in a fridge. If you are without a fridge, keep it the coolest place you can find and make sure it stays out of direct sunlight.
Shoulders, back and chest are not the only things that burn on holiday, we tend to think about these way more than we do our exposed scalp in the Sun. Treat your scalp like you would your shoulders, reapply sun lotion throughout the day. After a day on the beach wash your hair as normal but when you condition leave it in a little longer than you normally would to moisturise your scalp.
Hairdryers, Straightners, Clippers, Razors and Beard Trimmers can all succumb to performance issues and may not even work depending on the wattage of the country you are travelling to. It's definitely worth checking beforehand the wattage of the country you are travelling to uses and whether your appliance will work. Also ask the hotel, they may have hairdryers in rooms or at reception. Finally... Don't forget your travel adaptors!
When you’ve had a hard day hitting the bar and getting ready for a night out or you’ve woken up with the hangover from hell, these two words will save you a job… DRY SHAMPOO!
